Scary Movie
I finally succeeded in watching a scary movie :--) Saturday night we watched 1408, inspite of DH warning me many times. And I wasnt so scared after all. I stopped watch scary movies during my first year of Masters. Me and a friend watched What Lies Beneath. It is not a gory scary movie, but it sends the shivers nevertheless. I was not able to walk alone in the dark for weeks after that night. I managed to watch some thrillers, like Ring's, Scream's with my eyes half closed. Somehow on Saturday I was feeling a little dull, so I decided to venture seeing this movie. I should say I was disappointed. Pretty stupid I should say. The first scary scene, that was also shown in the trailer of the movie was the best, everything else was crappy.
Birthdays
Last Thursday was DH's birthday. I gathered our friends at home, and "Surprise!"'d DH when he came in late in the night. He was really surprised, I think. He caught an earlier flight because he wanted to come home before I slept off. ;--) And he said he totally didnt expect it. I should thank my friends, as they managed to come, in the middle of the week, stayed until late night, inspite of the short notice and hectic times. They really rock!
It is my little brother's birthday today. So we took him out for Dinner last night. Got him an iPod Nano. He was very happy and surprised I think.
Attitude matters
I finally managed to get up on stage. After a long time, over seven years. To sing! :--) The singing itself was not upto my expectations, my voice seemed to be shivering in nervousness. But I am happy I gathered enough courage to do it, inspite of my shyness, complex etc etc. So many of my friends couldnt believe that I could sing, that too in Hindi. The judges, Randy, Paula, and Simon ( ;--)) were happy. The catch though is that the winner is chosen by voting. So I have been asking folks I know to vote for me. I think its not fair, since the Idol is going to be the most popular person at work. ;--)
A little flashback.
The first time I got on stage to perform was in Std 8. Solo singing and group dancing. But then the audience were our parents, and their colleagues, who were always soo motivating, singing your praises, that you fail to realize you are not that great as they portray. I am sure many of you have come across the situation where you are forced to perform, in my case sing, in front of the guests who visit you. I was in the school choir, in the music group etc etc. The big blow to my ego, if I may call it, came when I switched to the great school, full of talented students. Shobana, and Harini were part of the school choir, how can I even think of singing with them? From then on I stopped singing on stage, or in competitions, sang only in the Church. In College, it was a totally different crowd. They would shout at you and openly show their distaste, even if you did sing well. Still I did gather my guts and sing in Sivaranjani for two years.
So after that, after so many years, this is my first time on stage. The crowd at work is a geeky crowd, very few are interested in music. Well, it works for me ;--) I was surprised when the judges said I am doing a good job after the first couple of auditions. (Yes, we had auditions, very professional ;--D) One of them said something that really hit me hard. We are not professional singers, we are here to try our hand at it. The way to go about it is to exuberate a lot of confidence, 'own the stage', and 'commit to the moment'. Well. thats what I did. I dont care if I dont win the contest, I dont care if people think I really sucked. Actually I surprised myself by thinking this way. The competitive person in me, would never let me say this. But I am happy I participated, I was one of the ten who had the guts to get up and sing in front of a whole Cafe of crowd. The results wont be out for another few days. I really dont care, really, I am happy I participated. |

i actually liked 1408. I love psychological thrillers.
and do u guys give bumps or is it something that stops after a while. we kick the ass outta b'day baby :)
there u go. I think u just need the courage to participate and its so much fun even if you dont win. you know what we id, we bunch of guys participated in all the events in the final year of the college. we did make fool of ourselves in some and won prizes in some other. But what the heck what matters is that we had fun and we'll remember it forever.

Dushti,
Sure will do ;--))
Maverick, Yes 1408 was a thriller sure, but it lost momentum soon, and turned out very illogical.
Bumps - no. I guess we are more matured or something hehe.
Yes participating is all about having fun la. That is more important than winning. :--)
