Psst may not have time to update this page on BSK's birthday, so want to jot down stuff as she completes one year.
BSK can point to what she wants. She eyes at something she wants, be it the iPad or the head band or biscuit or teddy, and slowly brings her tiny little forefinger out to point in the direction of her want of choice. At church she pointed at the snack box a fellow kid had and started crying, she wanted snacks! Atleast she can tell us what she wants without letting us guess.
BSK can say Hai, and Bye and Tata all accompanied by waving hands oh-so cutely. She can also put her hand up to her head to say Good morning and Good night. Every night, it is a ritual to say Good night and Bye to Grandma and grandpa before heading upstairs. And it is a ritual to say Good morning first thing.
She loves her own reflection and her pictures. She would get totally excited. And would point to the iPad and ask me to show her pictures in a slide show. Not sure if I mentioned already, but she can press that one button on the iPad to activate it AND press the little flower icon to bring up the slideshow of her pictures!
She can point with her forefinger to the right persons as answers to "Amma enge?" "Appa enge?" "Thatha enge?" "Paati enge?" She used to get confused if I myself asked Amma enge? But now she is smarter. If I ask Amma enge, or if DH asks Appa enge, or, you get the drift she would pat on us, instead of pointing finger at us. Like saying " Hayyooo you dont know who you are?" kind. When asked "BSK enge?" she used to get confused too, for some time she would look at a mirror and point to herself in the mirror. Now slowly she has learnt to pat herself when asked the question.
Apart from recognizing and pointing elephant, teddy, doggy, laptop, monkey, ball, ring etc, now she can point to kannu, mooku, kaadhu, and tail of teddy, doggy, elephant etc. She can also point to "Amma kannu" at my eyes. But somehow "Amma mookku" is always my mouth. ;--) One thing she does is, even if she doesnt know the answer to a question, she randomly points at something and goes, "Dhooo!" (Adho in tamil is there it is!) Pozhachuppa! (She will survive!) She is understanding other words like shoe. DH was saying, "Paapkku shoe pottu, lets take her out" She immediately moved towards her shoe and sat by it!
Evenings I take her out to the back yard and front with her shoes on, hold her hand and walk her to the plants. I go from one plant to another, and ask her to say Hai to the plants which she does only too enthusiastically. She seems to love flowers and plants in general. We often do, "X enge? Xku hai sollu?" and she obeys.
Another new thing she has learnt. Bird. She points to anything moving in the sky, even an airplane and goes "ba" Not baa in ball but ba in bird kind. If we ask her, bird epdi parakkum, She will swiftly move her arms up and down. All this thanks to my Dad.
After her first love of ABCD song, now she likes Ba ba black sheep. "BSK Paatu paadu?" and she goes, "Baa baa" and then some more unintelligible sounds like she is actually singing the song. And she would dance if we sing it. And once we stop singing, she will go baa baa, like asking her to sing more! I showed her a you tube video of Ba ba black sheep song and now every night she points to the ipad and goes baa baa.
What else, she sees food and goes mummum. Yesterday I was giving her paruppu sadham and veggies from sambhar. Paruppu sadham is bland but veggies in sambhar has sambhar taste. She had one beans and then she refused paruppu sadham and pointed to the dish that had the beans, going mummum, and wanted only that! Phew! She sees her bottle and goes "paa" for Paal.
If she gets hurts hitting on something, we do "bed adichudalama?" and hit on it. So now she had hit us and other things too. Not sure if this is a good thing. ;--) If she doesnt like something she will hit it.
She loves clothes. When DH or I are folding clothes she would come and in the name of helping us put everything on the floor. But she is good in taking it again and handing it to us if we ask for it. She loves to put any piece of clothing on her head hiding her face and smile underneath, while we pretend we dont know where she is. "BSK enge?" we keep asking and she then frantically pulls the cloth off her face showing her huge smile. Now she can open drawers and cupboards in the kitchen, loves it when the dishwasher is open. Need to put those gates before parents leave. No kitchen access for her.
This game we play. She can stand for seconds without falling down. She will stand and I will go Aaaaaaaaa and when she falls down on her butt "upppuu" I go. So when I start Aaaaaa, she will clamor to stand up and stand as much as possible and laugh off when she falls down. Its tooo cute. She will do it again and again and ask me to go Aaaa. She loves it.
This weekend at church, she shook hands with another kid, smiled at her, tried to pull her hair, played with her. May be she is not so fearful of strangers after all. I hope she doesn't end up crying on her birthday.
That is all I can think of right now.
Little pattu, love your happy smiley face, love your enthusiasm, love your sense of humour, you make our lives much happier.
Edited to add:
For Mother's day BSK got me a bouquet of flowers. We took some pictures with bubbles maker in the backyard. Mom and I went shopping to DSW. Got a handbag and footwear for her. On behalf of BSK, bought myself a pair of flats. Polks dots. I am officially crazy for polka dots. I have a dress, a jacket and now flats, all black and white polka dots. |
