Of late I havent felt about anything strong enough, to put it down in my blog. Now I do.

One of my good friend and colleague is leaving to India for good. We have been a great batch of friends for over two years now. I still remember the day I started work, he occupied a cube adjacent to mine, we were four newbies, in a really mature team. We used to go for lunch together, down at the Cafe, talk about everything under the sun, go out to lunch on Fridays. He is one of the sharpest guys I have come across. I would not call him geeky or nerdy. This guy knows how to have fun too. Slowly our gang became bigger and bigger as newbies trickled in. Fridays ended a little early for us, we spent close to one hour standing by this guy's cube, chatting, pulling everyone's legs, laughing till our jaws ached.

He is very famous for playing pranks. I am always careful to not leave my laptop unlocked, lest he send a mass email from my id. This one time, another poor guy left his laptop unlocked. He went and added a note on his Communicator, 'I wanna get married!' He also took a snapshot of the note and sent it to the team. Poor chap couldnt show his head out for a long time.

Also most of the guys in our team are in the 'eligible bachelors' category. They are either looking for a girlfriend or just hooked up, or just married ;--) Which makes pulling leg all the more fun and interesting.

Me and him were the one initially talking about returning to India soon. He is a man of his words, he is actually doing it. Well, lets say he is forced to do, due to his future boss's(read wife's) orders. I am still here though. But this is because when we go back to India, we cant really stay there for long can we now. Be it Software or Hardware, we have to come back here on Business Trips because part of our team would be here. Even this guys is already expected to make a business trip to the US in a couple of months. Sigh. Atleast for now, at this stage where me and DH are trying to gain more experience. Things might be different in a few more years when we are more settled in our careers.

I liked the energy around me with all these guys around. So much fun and frolic, with work in between. ;--)

Yesterday this guy had to come up with one liners for all of us, in his send off lunch. He came up with such witty, funny ones, I still laugh just thinking about them. In the evening we had our own informal send off party again, where he was okay with embarrassing himself by dancing with a towel like a girl. The day was a lot of fun making fun of him on how he gets to lose every battle with his fiance, because she happens to be a lawyer. ;--) Seriously its tough for guys to win arguments with their wives as such, but with a lawyer forget about even trying to win.

I havent been emotionally attached to anyone/anything after I came to the US. I think this is the first time I am actually feeling bad that somebody is leaving. I mean I am not feeling so bad that I will sit and cry, but still, its a dull ache, a low moment, makes me remember the good times we have had. I dont know if this is a good sign or otherwise. I dont know if after he leaves we will still continue to 'gossip' as his was the 'gossip cube'. I dont know if we will continue to be the same tight group, pulling each other's legs.

But one good thing, when we do go back to India, I can get him to find me a job in his group. Another good thing, one less competition. ;--D I know, I sound mean.

I dont seem to be making much sense, but it is because my emotions are clouded.

Anyway good luck to him India, am sure he will survive and shine bright where ever he goes.

As a side note, I observed, guys also try to diet, as in not have birthday cakes! and try to lose weight before wedding! LOL! And guys also have hair cuts and facials(I am just extending here) and diet before meeting their fiance. ;--) God help the guys.

He is talking the talk and walking the walk. Soo many people claim, including me, that they will go back to India. And so many people change their mind.

Another benefit: You will get more work done;)

And I think you are terribly lucky with your group. From what I know its all infighting etc. at work. Of course, what will I know. I havent done a days work in 23 yrs.

i knw i knw. I cant really be emotionally detached. I mean when we're parting or something I'm one of those who gets emotional the most. Yeah, but like most of the guys I dont let it show up on my face.

    but life will move on.
