Ramblings Only

Just ramblings, only a vent for emotions, feelings and all the good stuff

For granted
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
The things you take for granted once you have been in this country for almost seven years:

Cleanliness
Cold temperatures (read 72F) in every place that has a roof
Fat ladies in skimpy clothes
Thin ladies in skimpy clothes
Clothes that never get dirty
Not sweating inspite of peak summer
Sidewalks along roads for pedestrians
The well mowed grass and pretty flowers alongside sidewalks
Multi-storey structures for parking
Follow rules and not park in marked areas, unlike India
The sheer number of cars on highways
The 'fly overs' as they call it
$4 toll!
Coffee (Latte. Mocha) for $3 which is 120Rs
Speaking about Rs, converting every single price tag into Indian rupees.
The mega sized veggies, frozen veggies, canned beans
People always eating or drinking
The huge drinking cups, hot or cold
Babies being man-handled, brought to public places like Bowling when 1 week old!
Super cute huggable pinchable babies
The occasional Public Displays of Affection
The smiles from strangers
The Bus driver at the airport helping with luggage of passengers
The variety of clothes and the sizes. The year long Sale in stores.
Really old but strong men and women.
Really fat but strong men and women.

I wish I were more 'fresh off the boat' to have the time to appreciate the wonderment.
I will add more as I think of them. Do feel free to add what you think.

Things that become a rarity after being in US:

Fresh cooked food for every single meal. :--))

My first reaction was - 72F is cold? So ok, you should add that to the list -
Thinking anything above 80 degrees is very hot!"

lol, are you in india or something? And yea Cleanliness. It comes under the rarity part where India is concerned. Atleast chennai. Bleddy kuppathotti.

And if you smile at a stranger here, you'll probably be handed over to the police or something, lol.

    Hi ,

    I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be wow.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Ramblings Only’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

    Cheers,
