And we are parents to a 1 year old toddler!! BSK has started walking albeit unsteadily. She took her first step two weeks ago, but I was kind of waiting for a miracle to happen, where in one day she would not walk and the next day she would be a pro at walking. That didnt happen. She took one step, then she slowly took two steps at a time. Then she was able to move between distant objects like couch to chair to my leg to wall etc. On her birthday she could take 4 shaky steps. I stood afar and lured her with her favorite food item, she would look at the distance and start crying. Utterly cute. But over the last couple of days, she is becoming a pro.
"BSK, nedhu nillunga" or "BSK, kaiya vittutu nillunga" she immediately carefully pushes away what she is holding on it and stands with both hands free, literally like she is standing on fire and one movement would burn her to death. ;--) Too cute. Then if we call her she would guage the distance, if it is within 5 steps or so she would take the bait and come to you. Yesterday she 'walked' like that so many times, small distances.
So yes there was no miracle that one day she suddenly started walking. She is slowly learning, one step after another. It is quite an exciting time for us at home!
BSK's birthday was super awesome. I want to dissect it fully. Everyone loved the decor, was a big hit. Pink chairs sashes and table covers gave a complete face lift to the place. And balloons, pink and purple, gave another lift. Cake was super awesome. German chocolate cake was so so so amazing it is too bad I cannot eat more. The crowd was super. We had friends to help out who were super awesome. Food was oh so good, too bad we ate last and hence couldnt eat as well. The Fairy who came to entertain the kids was also super awesome. BSK while she cried for sometime initially when folks were fussing over her, she totally adored this Fairy who came colorfully dressed and shared some ubver fluffy toys, bears, doggies, monkies and mice. BSK loved stuffing her face into the super cuddly doggy, and almost didnt let the Fairy finish her magic show. She also loved the balloons, there were just too many.
Multiple people who came to book the hall for future events took pictures of the decor and said I should be an event planner. Yay for that!
Now for things that could have gone better - banner - was a let down we did not put it up as we should have. The balloon arch was exactly the size of the cake table and it kind of came in front of the banner hiding BSK's picture in the banner. Not as neat as I would have liked. People trickled in slowly. Started the party at 11:30, wanted to cut the cake by 1:30 atleast. But the Magic show was going on then, and we didnt want to interrupt. So it was 2 by the time we cut the cake. I almost forgot to give return favors to those that left one after the other quickly. Since there were too many people we were not able to spend lot of time with some good friends. That is what happens in large parties. Wish I had the camera on me, I would have taken some close ups of BSK on her big day. But we went home gave her a cake piece to smash in her diapers. She loved it, needless to say.

Hall - Amma's Banquet Hall - totally new and worked well for us, a party for 65 people, also provided pink table chair decor at additional cost, awesome south indian food, hall is fairly new
Decoration - Bought from Birthday Express two weeks in advance to reach home in time, very cute
Theme - Princess/Pink and Purple/Cupcakes all mixed
Cake - Amia Bakery - Princess theme, pink and purple, crown at top, German Chocolate Cake and Black Forest with fruit filling, totally utterly delicious
Balloons - AMB Balloon Designs - Cute balloon decor for cake table and center pieces, also blew our balloons for additional cost. Expensive, bad book keeping.
HappilyEverLaughter - Secret Fairy for kids entertainment, did face painting, magic show and balloons. BSK totally loved her and the kids and adults did too
That is it! Not too bad for a hurriedly planned party.
This time I did not mind the non-green celebration. But this will be the last big party splurge for awhile. Next will be for BSK's graduation with a big sigh of relief :--P

Great job on the planning and lovely pictures...first birthdays are usually for parents more than kids....I did the same, although the caterer I picked was a wrong choice and the food was not that great...AND it arrived late. But I don't feel terrible about it coz I did my best, and someone else (the caterer) screwed up....my intentions were good.

Why didnt you order some extra food that is take home for you guys? I regret party hosts never enjoy the food. Same happens in Hindu weddings too! (I imagine christian and muslim weddings are less nerve wracking than Hindus', but who knows..)

banner and all is showing well, why so much vetti scene..! Lurve the table and chair decor, seriously. So how much did it all cost monetarily? :D
