This earthquake today shook me up. Yet again. Poor poor Nepal. It is a faraway land for most of us and I wouldn't have even given more than a few minutes of thoughts before moving on to worry about the next little thing in life. But not now. Looks like the Epicenter was near Namche Bazaar, a village sprawling over the mountain, enroute EBC. We saw several damaged homes, several tents pitched, babies sleeping in tents, because their house was damaged. We met three school girls that spoke amazing good English. " what is your occupation" they asked. I told them I was an engineer. And I told them to aim to be one when they grew up too. I met this sibling couple - big sister and little brother, who gave us the hardest hi-fi possible.
One family was kind enough to let us use their make believe restroom, which was pretty much two planks on a large hole with lot of hay, after our long hike in urgency. And I took the lock of their restroom by mistake. It was in my pocket and I couldn't remember how it got there. I wanted to buy another lock for the bathroom on our way back. On our way back the bathroom was only rubbles.
I wonder why God troubles the good people? Or does god only trouble the good people because only they can handle it? I still cannot forget how life resumed and services resumed and we got hot food inspite of all that was going around.
We still don't know the extent of impact in the Khumbu region, because it is so inaccessible. We may not even hear much about the region because it is not densely populated like the valley. Since this one is closer to this region I am sure there is lot of damage. ;--(
I was telling a friend, all it takes is just one rock to fall on you to take a plunge onto death down below, or to fall on your head from a damaged building.
Anyhow. More later. In a super rambling mode.
If you would like to help please let me know. Our guide is in his village, his home is gone, a lot of destruction in this village. He is safe today but not sure how much more the poor country can take!
Edited to add a picture of the town from over a hill we hiked. I don't want to post pictures post earthquake.
