I think I am ready.. To make fun of this house.
This was a serious house on our list to see. I thought I could make tiny work. We are after all only three people in the house.
1220sqft of living space. It is livable except for the kitchen. DH took one look at the kitchen and said this home is for folks that never cook. Seriously! But the place was not without interested parties. There was stuff to eat and coffee to drink.
This is not one of Eichler's masterpieces.
One person was asking questions that indicated that she was buying to tear the structure down and built something new on it. Investment, she said. Of course Asian. Sigh!
This Eichler on the other hand was pretty nice. Big house with atrium, lovely glass walls, passable modern kitchen. Now I can see the old shelves and rickety doors when I see it. It is after all half a century old. I wish they built homes like this now. Super modern.
The area was still a bad commute and the city is pretty much built on engineered landfill. No thank you.
After viewing some homes in the Peninsula, none particularly noteworthy, East Bay looks like paradise. Packed as it may be it is not as packed as the other side. More greenery, 'newer', and more house for the money. Asians have done their homework and settled in this location, not without research.
May be when I become a CEO of a company I will move next to other CEOs Mark Zuckerberg and Marissa Mayor and Larry Page in famed atrociously priced city. ;--p I can sacrifice a little for dotter but I cannot live in a shed just so dotter can be a nobody in the famous public schools. I can commute for dotter but I am not ready to kill myself with a 1.5 hour one way commute for her kindergarten in a private school. This is the decision I have made.
She will go to a good public school, not the best of all, but the best within our reach.
What I am looking for in our next home? Pretty much what I have in my house now. I had some gripe about the kitchen and closets which have been fixed by some remodelling. Our house is perfect the way it is for the three of us. May be some extra storage would help to put dotters old crib and table and stuff we are too busy to get rid of. That's only because Mia takes up half the garage space. Otherwise it is perfect.
High ceiling. Large windows on all sides. Decent yard to have a fruit sapling we planted which has a strong thick trunk now! Open floor plan. Perfect size to feel cosy, at the same time perfect to host dinners for 10 people or 30 people.
I really love my home. I am so not ready to move yet!
I have not found the perfect home yet, although I see they exist. They just need to come to the market. By the looks of it it may take a while before we get what we want. In the mean time we are ready to put ours in the market. Stressful process. Pray hope everything goes smoothly.
