Ramblings Only

Just ramblings, only a vent for emotions, feelings and all the good stuff

Move day
Saturday, July 16, 2016
It is hard to move from this house with so many memories. I was pregnant in this house, we brought BSK home, we became parents, she learnt to roll over, crawl, walk, talk, run.. Our first home. When we made improvements, we didn't think of moving out, somehow it seemed too far away. Like this house was a part of our family and will be with us forever.

Well may be it will be with us forever, since we still own it but just the thought of having another family live in this place we always thought of our own.. Is a little aching.

Now the new family seems perfect and in fact they will probably keep it much better than we did. The doctor lady seems to be a clean freak but they have a preschooler at home who knows what he might do!

We still have some packing to do, last few utensils from the dishwasher from the last meal we had here. And some clothes.

We are still unsure if we will have space for all the junk we are carrying from here. Seriously the amount of junk you collect when you own a house! I resolve to not buy any more stuff in a whim. No more. I know my limitations. I am not going to change my ways suddenly, and do things differently. This is who I am and this is how I do things. I accept it.

I am a little apprehensive about the new neighborhood. Will we make friends? More importantly will JSK make friends? Will she be happy? Will she like it? Will she fall in bad company? DH has a long commute but he can work on the train which means he doesn't have to work at home every night. For dotter all her classes are close by, lot of parks and activities. No Indian store closeby for emergencies but they are many just a few miles out! Poor Mia has to do with regular outlet charging. If it doesn't work out we will put the charger in the house what the heck.

Some things that we have to get used to about the house -

- it is OLD. Of late I have started liking old. Old has character, stories, and a history. It is a slice from the past which makes it interesting for me. The plan is not standard floor plan which is interesting.

- one car garage. Mia will be in there which means no storage space. Well there is some space but not as much as before, one car size. There is a long driveway that can hold about 6 cars.

- no master bedroom ensuite. Let me see how long it takes to get used to this!

- if my current closet is small this one is smaller! As it comes with old homes.

- kitchen is old with white appliances, also old. It is a sin to not have stainless steel appliances here I suppose. The cabinets are manageable. Enough cabinets not unreasonable.

- backyard has grass and mud which we have to get used to. There is a front yard too, very cute, but grass and mud. May be I will take some pictures someday and share here.

With that out of the way, things I like about the house -

- open living space.
- floor to ceiling glass wall looking into the backyard as with all Eichler homes
- lots and lots of sunlight all through the house
- one bonus room for dotter to use as a playroom, woohoo!
- master bedroom has a door into the backyard
- guest bedroom has a separate entrance too, was used as a nanny room by the owner. Unique?
- one floor house so no walking up and down ;--) let us see how we like it.
-All our furniture will fit into the house no need to throw away furniture. In fact we have to buy a dining table because we were managing with a built in counter here.
- the best part of the house is the neighborhood. Downtown, parks, things to do.
- Good schools
- all activities close by
- My commute is halved, and against traffic. DH can sit and get some work done on the train.

I went yesterday to get the  keys I did feel like moving in, yes, I did.
