Tag and Diwali Wishes

IBH tagged me. I have tags piling up so I am getting to this one first.

Its been a long time since I wrote a mushy senti post. No, I wont send my few readers running a long mile from my blog, with another such post. ;--)

This writeup of mine from long time back comes close as an answer to the tag.

"
If only they knew..

"Priya, I love you"
Vivek typed the sentence slowly, deliberately, letter by letter, trying to fathom the reaction his statement would elicit.
For the hundredth time, may be. He did not count.

Priya. Priya. Priya.
He mouthed her name, thrice, stopping for a second between each time, a mischeivous but shy smile spreading across his face.

He knew she would be shocked if she realized what he was thinking. She will never talk to him if she knew he spoke the truth. Every time. Each and everytime, when they played this little game of theirs. That would be the end of their relationship, he knew.

He found a tickling pleasure, in typing those words, staring at them for a few seconds, with a smile across his face, comprehending for a fleet second how it would be if Priya did accept his love.

He knew she would...never ever.

Backspace. Backspace. Backspace.
He typed instead,"Priya, what will you do if I said I love you?"

He pressed Send, with his middle finger, making a *chunk* at the keyboard, his fingers stopping dead after, as if waiting for a signal to move again. The signal being awaited was a response from Priya.

His adament heart, was hopelessly hoping for a miracle. That would enable Priya to say she loved him too. A miracle that would give a thousand wings on his back and make him fly out in the sky, make a visit to the clouds beyond and back.

*****

Priya stared at the screen, as the line came up. Her heart lept up, and fell back as fast if not faster.
"Are you serious? I should think.." She typed.
And paused, contemplating on what he would say next.

She knew. She knew what would happen if she took it seriously and replied. He would put a 32 teeth face and say he was just kidding. She enjoyed those games, yes, she enjoyed all the pulling each others' leg.

There were scores of times.

"Hey Priya, I have written a mail to you. For the first time, I have openned up my heart to you, really wide. Please, please, pretty please, dont say No to what I have asked Priya."
Was the first time.

She was really scared. She was not ready for any love crap. She had so much to achieve. She had so much to accomplish. She openned the mail with shaking fingers.

"When would you fulfill my dream of us having a beer together?"was the essence of the mail.

A wave of relief had passed through her then.

She told him, that she was scared he might propose. Mistake one. She let him know blatently, that she did not have any intention of the relationship going beyond friendship. Mistake, mistake. There was absolutely no chance now. She annulled the possibility right in the beginning.

Now she knew he would never mean it seriously..ever.

She very much wanted him to really mean it. The more they talked, the more she knew they were made for each other. She knew no man would ever take care of her like he did.

But she knew they would never have a life together. It was next to impossible. Their lives were 180 degrees to each other. If she was facing East, he was facing West. If he was walking North, she was walking South. They could not be any more different than they already were.

It was magic that brought them together. It was magic that was keeping them together, as friends, as best friends. But that's about it. Period. It cannot move an inch further.

******

She let out a loud sigh. Her friend in the nearest computer looked up.

She tied up all her feelings, in a bulky bundle, with a tight knot and threw them into a corner of her heart, not wanting anybody to probe that dark little corner again.

Backspace. Backspace. Backspace.

She typed instead,"Yeah yeah right. Oh Cmon Vivek. No time for games."
"Now listen to me. You know today this stupid A did not..."

********

Vivek's fingers slopped onto his keyboard, in disappointment, for the hundredth time. He waited for the fluttering in his heart, caused by expecting the unexpected, to die down.

"I am not joking Priya. I really think..I am very much in love with you."
He stared for long at his line, with his mouse hovering over the Send button for what seemed like eternity. He playfully clicked on the mouse, over and over, not exactly clicking on the Send.

If only he had accidentally clicked on Send, just once. He did not know.

Backspace. Backspace. Backspace.
He slowly typed a colon and a capital D, making a 32 teeth face.

********

If only they knew...

"

Eventually, which seemed really far in the future then, we found our peace with the fact that it is okay for friendship to turn to love, and that it works really well for two friends to get married, since they understand each other so well, and things did pan out as we expected, inspite of all the misconceptions. :--)

I dont know too many such couples, so anyone reading this is free to take the tag.

Almost forgot.

Wishing all of you a Happy Diwali!! :--)
