I am back from a week long vacation with family and I am so not looking forward to the nightmarish work schedule I need to get myself back into.
A super short account of the trip.
Day 0: Cooking, packing for the trip. Wrapping up work for the week long time off.
Day 1: Drive to Mystery Spot. Everyone in the car is scared of the forest of Santa Cruz. Drive to Monterey, the usual not-so-great 17 mile drive followed by the stunning drive down south on CA-1. The drive to our hotel for the night in Paso Robles was interesting, with me almost hitting a deer on a cliff on CA-1, DH half expected us to roll down the cliff when I hit the brakes. And driving down the winding solitary roads in Central CA, had the rest of the folks in the car silent in fear, till we reached the hotel in the middle of nowhere.
Day 2: Drive to LA on 101, in and out of mountains, temperatures changing like my moods. Afternoon in Universal Studios, a few rides, some shows, the usual. Night was spent driving through Sunset Blvd and Rodeo Drive.
Day 3: Universal Studios again, Simpsons, Shrek, Mummy ride for the fourth time counting Florida. Early tuck in to bed, considering the long drive the next day.
Day 4: Drive from LA to Grand Canyon South Rim. Me and DH were cursing each other for not planning this one correctly. Ice rain had to happen, only when I was driving. Hmphf! A good 8 hrs later, Grand Canyon was worth every minute spent on the road. The hugeness of the whole thing, had me spellbound. The IMAX movie was superb, thanks to A for recommending it. Me and DH are planning to visit this place again soon, and discover more of what it has to offer. We left after watching the sunset. Had Pizza for dinner, no choice :--S

Day 5: Drive to Las Vegas. Barren desert land. Beautiful in its own way, another face of mother nature. Pit stop at Hoover Dam, loved the color of Colorado River, meandering like a young beautiful maiden in the middle of nowhere, exquisite. Good rest in the afternoon, for a long night later. Some gambling, some winning, yes, you read it right ;--), a lot of walking in the night. Parents were super awed by the city, the glamour of it all.
Day 6: Some more gambling, made parents eat Chinese and Italian, and they finally started liking, no, eating outside food. FIL took to Vegas like fish to water. Like father, like son :--P. Some more walking in the evening, visiting the big hotels, in the hot oven of the Strip. Me and DH stayed up till 2 in the night, as luck was mildly on our side, we even encashed some chips before retiring for the night. A good experience after the Reno fiasco.
Day 7: Drive drive drive. Mountains, barren desert, traffic. Reached home at 9 in the night. Exhausted, but content, and a little sad, the road trip of the year was over.
