1000miles in..

..sorry you have to hear about my second baby :--P

2 weeks and 1000miles in, with the novelty sort of worn off (I no longer keep checking my app to make sure my car is where I parked :--P) wanted to capture some thoughts.

- DH is scared to drive it without me. :--D And I fight with him to drive the car when we go out together. Cmon driving this beauty on 880 at barely 30mph doesnt cut it.
- Since Bay Area is full of Tesla didnt expect the look of awe wherever we went. But when we went to Madras Cafe of lunch this past weekend, there were folks who kept looking it, and one guy took a picture too!
- I think the car looks super sexy and looks awesome when being driven too. I look out for other Teslas on the road just to watch them zoom by. They are always going fast on the Carpool lane.
- I think I am more cautious and goving in this car until now, give way to lot of cars, earlier I would not! It would bug me if someone cut me off or came in front of me.
- It could be my imagination but I feel people speed up when they are near me. Does Tesla do it? Try to see if they can get ahead of a Tesla?
- The regenerating brakes are super awesome. One pedal driving. And it coasts beautifully in 0-20mph in traffic too. Too smooth.
- It is smart! So third day at work with Mia, she prompted me in the evening "Are you at work?" And popped up the address. "Would like to save the address as Work?" I never saved my work address because well I know how to get to work from home!
- A few days later I get into the car in the morning to get to work and my "Traffic Aware Navigation" pops up a note saying "Save 6 mins by following an alternate route to work. Continue?" I knew it would never work, but followed it nevertheless. Took me through inside roads and didnt get on the freeway until it was absolutely neccessary. Smart eh?
- Shows up my calendar in the beginning of the day, so I can mentally prepare myself for the day while driving?
- I am exploring the Slacker Radio. Lot of English music.
- Steering wheel can be programmed to be in Comfort, Standard and Sport mode. So this car can typically ape any type of steering! You want hard to turn wheels? You got it. You want comfy easy to turn wheels? Got it too! Reminds me of all the customization you can do with software.
- Same goes to the dashboard where cars have speedometer and thermometer? and gas indicator. It is fully customizable. It can show maps, and songs, and controls.
- Software update 6.1 is being rolled out, with Autopilot features. I am still waiting for it.Too excited! New features get added through software updates much like your computer that is why I love this car.
- BSK has her own cabin at the back. She loves it.
- I have to say I am very impressed by Elon Musk and am a fan. Trying to change conventional wisdom and way of doing things is not easy. He is changing the automobile industry. Not just that, he also owns SpaceX (can I get a job in SpaceX?), and Solarcity. Things that I have grown interested in.
- I have been camping out on Tesla Forums in all my spare time, reading and reading more about the car. Who knew I would get interested in cars? Because i dont have to learn about corburator and spark plug and engines. Just motors and batteries and software. Familiar territory.

Ok now let me move on to my other baby BSK ;--)

- Madame loves to read! The other day I was super surprised to hear her read words like "ripped" and "tonight". But she will read only if she puts in an effort. There was this article floating on FB about how even if the letters within long words are muddled up you end up reading the word correctly as long as the first and the last letter are correct. As I watch BSK trying to read words I realize that she put the first and last letter together with the vowel she sees in the middle. Works for three letter words but not longer words. But it is fun to see her really try and then the happiness when she realizes it is a word she is familiar with! I am not able to remember the exact scenarios, but it sure is fun to watch her fall in love with reading. I have started taking her to the library, only now, since even I was bored reading the same books to her over and over and cmon how many books can you really buy? I am getting her the learning to read books, she can go through several books in a week.

- Her social skills do need more work. It is most glaringly apparent when we visit new children for the first time. With kids she knows she is better. Even though she has a longer warm up time with people, once she is warmed up, she wouldnt want to leave! Instances where when we visited DH's chithappa and the cousin who was very good with kids spent a lot of time with her. By the end of our visit, BSK almost threw a tantrum because she had to leave the cousin!

- Discipline - sigh! Not getting anywhere. Sometimes she is good, and mind you she knows when she is good and would call it out too. Shower you with sorry and kisses. Other times, she can be a real meanie. As I say "the MIL I never had" :--P My MIL is the sweetest woman on earth.

- She can talk super long sentences and tell stories. "Enakku pidicha paattu pottappram next appa ku pidicha paatu podakoodadha" "Adhu inga irukku irukku solreenga, eduthuttu vara koodadha"! To hear her talk like an adult makes me wonder when did this all happen!

- Still short tempered. No patience. Eating is much better. Friend came to visit and she was awed that BSK ate all her mac and cheese, sitting on the chair all by herself. It helped that it was mac and cheese too, and that the other 1 year old kid was sitting with her on the table. So much is going on in that little head of hers. But mostly I think it is candy and chocolates and yummies. Also princesses. She knows princesses names more than I do. I have to ask her. All from school. She has this Shark activity book that she loves working on.

- She loves listening to songs in the car. Her new favorite song is "Selfie pulla, give me a umma umma" She likes Vijay Uncle.

- She needs to get out and play more I guess. She does have play time in school . It is dark by the time I pick her up. But I am sure we will get there once Spring gets here. Talking of getting out, we went for breakfast today and Country Way and boy I was reminded of the wooded national parks we havent visited in a while. National parks and wilderness bring peace and calmness that a city park or any other man made attraction can never bring. Let us see what we can plan for this year.

Friday! Have had a long long long week. A few more nightmarish weeks to follow, more later.
