Mr Putter and Tabby
Tuesday, December 15, 2015

One of the series JSK reads is one Mr Putter and Tabby series. I love love love the series. This is the story of an old man Mr Putter and his cat Tabby. Their neighbor is Mrs Teaberry and her dog Zeke. The stories are simple in words and kids get the meaning. But what is beautiful about the series is how it lets the parents appreciate the story as well when you go just a layer deeper.

It is very cute. Mr Putter and Tabby visit Mrs Teaberry who always gives them something to eat like pineapple jelly rolls. Immediately JSK would want to eat pineapple jelly rolls.

I have half a mind to get the entire series for her for Christmas although she has read most of them. That's my hoarder mentality talking. The little girl in me loves owning books. My dad never let me buy any books saying I can get them from the library anytime I want. I know it is a waste of paper but.. The little girl doesn't get it.
I wish I were a little girl now so I can read all these beautiful cute story books. I look forward to reading with JSK at night.

Some of the other books we get are Fancy Nancy, Henry and Mudge, Annie and Snowball, and Amelia Bedelia. I don't remember some others. Read a Cam Jensen book but JSK didn't understand cheating and the sleuthing that Cam does. She did however mimic Cam by 'clicking' everything she wanted to remember something.

Yesterday as I was reading I had this sudden urge to start writing children's books! May I could draw too! ( this is what happens when I am not too busy at work) Incidentally today we went to the Scholastic Warehouse book sale. We picked tons of books but bought only a few at half price with some discount. I know we can get books in the library but cannot beat filling book shelves with books. ;--) Lot of Disney books really put me off. I want normal stories with normal girls with normal hair and face.

I think I just like book shelves and the concept of a book more than actually reading it ;--))

This year I have also done some decent 'reading' with Audible. Mr Ramanujam is in Cambridge flooding papers with formulae. He is obsessed with prime numbers. He is also obsessed with getting a degree I guess. So far so good. The few mathematics that the author quotes are very interesting. Some parts are kinda boring which I happily let it fly over my head.

This is the year I have read about great men. Geniuses. Elon musk and steve jobs and Ramanujam. ElonMusk easily the best.

Searching for some good books for JSK took me back to Enid Blyton days. I read them when I was 13, a bit old I guess. Noddy books would be amazing for JSK but I am not able to find them anywhere!

Any other good book recos?

If you love books that have an old world charm, then you mud check out Richard Scarry' s books.I love his books. Our favorite of them all is "Favorite storybook ever".I love the stories and the illustrations.Another book (which is not part of any series) we love is Flotsam. It is by far the most creative story I've read.It has no lines, just illustrations.

Hey SK, I drop by at your every now and then. I was surprised to see that even you've had these thoughts of penning a children's book. I am an ameteur cartoonist/illustrator. I have these ideas every now and then, esp. around books with female protagonist, where a woman saves the man...never had the motivation or the push to take it further. I would love to connect with you and some other folks who have similar ideas. My name is Shilpa Jwalapathy. This is my id shilpa.jwalapathy@gmail.com
