A friend of mine forwarded me this:

PSBB Millennium School

The school fees for KG is 30K per year looks like!

I know it was a good school, when I was a student. I am guessing they are still trying to keep up the good name, how else would they zero in on such atrocious numbers for fees. I got into an argument with this friend, who says the individual alone is responsible for his development, and not the school, so he wouldnt spend so much on his kid's schooling. As for me, when I stepped out of the school, I left wishing I had studied there all my life, because I think the two years there molded me into a different person, that I am now, definitely on the better side. It is not just academics, but more on the personal side of development too. I thought if at all I ever settle in Chennai, I would want my kids to study there.

There are the chosen few whose nature would be to excel irrespective of their surroundings, but for the rest, I think it is the duty of the parents to provide them with good surroundings for their overall growth and development.

All said, I still think 30K Rs for KG is a little too much. I paid Rs 15 per term, Rs 45 for a whole year, till Std 10. I distinctly remember, some things are never wiped away by time you see, once a classmate in PSBB asked me if my Dad put me in that previous school because the fees was so cheap! I told her, No my Dad put me there because he gets transfers and it is easier when you study in a Central School, since it has the same syllabi through out the country. And he wouldnt have put me in this school now, which had atrocious fees then too, if he wanted to be stingy. My Dad always says, education is probably the only 'sothu' he can give his kids, for he has not a huge estate or a huge bank balance to pass down. I got to believe in that myself as I grew up.

The big question now is, would you put your kid in a high end school, inspite of such atrocious fees? Is the economy of our country exploding beyond worth?

PS: On a totally different note, I would like to share this, while the moment lasts, I had a teeny tiny role in this, lets say. Yes, Its 3:30AM, I am going to snuggle back to sleep until sane hours begin.

i too think the school plays a major role in the early years. but it's a combo of several other factors that make the child what he grows to be. and psbb is definitely an iit brand school. :-) good luck to your kids!

Congratulations on your contributions :-)! I guess a good school attracts good students and thus becomes even better.
