Please to adjust on the running information overload. Its one of the good things in my life right now, and lately my blog looks sad with posts like Lousy and Venting.

Lately I have been plagued with some injuries, attributed to bad running shoes and a steep week over week mileage. So I had to cut back on running quite a bit. Which might actually explain my recent lousy moods.

Last week we ran a 10K in SF. It was beautiful weather, there were about 300 folks running. And we were surely among the last. Main reason was because the not-so-serious runners wouldn't actually try to run a 10K, and I cannot compete with the serious runners. I ran with my knee injury, with the help of a knee band. Ah! Athletic now aren't we? ;--P I finished at a pace that surprised me.

While running itself sounds like an arduous task and it definitely is, the runner's high, is just amazing. The adrenaline coursing through the veins gives an amazing feeling of being on the clouds. And of course, the small milestones achieved give tremendous satisfaction. So essentially you feel like reaching a goal every other week, which is just what I need and like!!

Runners have always intimidated me, they still do. The high paced runners on the treadmill still give me major complex. But after running for 3 months, I think running is the easiest mountain to conquer. As I told one of my friends, you just have to do your thing and wait for your body to get used to it. And of course you have to be careful of injuries, listen to what your body says to keep it chugging along happily. Anyway, I am not an expert I am just a three month old runner, quite a toddler, but these are just my observations as a beginner. When I say beginner, I belong to the category that can do any form of exercise, except running. Running was a big no no. I couldn't run for 1 minute at a stretch (I know, shame shame!), that was tough for me. To realize how long I have come, (how I love looking back!), I am just happy. I still have a long way to go, but atleast I dont have to feel intimidated by running anymore!

Anyhoo, today was another milestone. 7.5mi. (Every new mile is a milestone, how sweet and rewarding!) Albeit at a slow pace. DH and I ran on the Los Gatos Creek Trail. It was the most amazing run we have done in a while. The amazingness can be attributed to our new running clothes in part, seriously thats what got me out of the bed today morning. We decided we would spend money on running clothes (the sweat sucking ones) only after we did the 10K, which we did last week. So I felt all athletic wearing those running clothes and running along with seasoned runners on a beautiful trail on a beautiful Sunday morning. The trail was so busy! I am sure it will get busier as Summer fast approaches. Runner, walkers, bikers, with kids, dogs, toddlers. There was a Team In Training run as well on the same trail. Its just so motivating and inspiring to see so many people. And there were fitness stops on the trail, to stretch, which was just awesome! My injuries seem to be healing better, I have slowed down quite a bit to give my body some time to get used to the distances and the speeds.

But, I am happy, happy, happy! (Its not fair if I write only when I am bugged no?)
We eat like people who set eyes on good food after days, after the run, which totally evens out the calories we burn during the run. But its okay, as long as we eat healthy. And we sleep like logs! Running is probably why I find it so difficult to give up on sleep, generally I am not so sleep-needy. The time change today doesn't help at all.

If I gave the idea that I am seasoned runner, then I should clarify. I still run at snail pace. But they say you should run at a conversational pace, which is snail pace for me. May be I can never run as fast as the rest, but I will still build the endurance to run longer, I hope.

Isn't Los Gatos Creek Trail awesome? Suresh(my husband) runs there quite often. He is a seasoned runner too. I have run there a couple of times and just loved it though I am not that big of a runner.

Your post is invigorating as always! Run - enjoy the run. I love the 'You-too-can-do-it' mentality that running opens up as we go on for long distances.

it IS serious business, yes. if you ran really hard the heels could lodge into one's rear... but seriously, awesome job... ever considered doing the appalachian trail?
