Its funny I am writing about perspective right after I gave a whole Toastmaster Speech on a similar note. Well, perspective seems to be the word of the month.
Remember my fish tank? Well, DH and I got excited and got more and more fishes. Now we have 12 fishes in all 8 male, 4 female, contrary to the usual 2:1 female/male ratio the pet stores suggest. Of course I was excited when I found one of the females starting to bulge. I read all about Guppy mating and reproducing one fine evening and I was really excited. I waited for a couple of days watching the lady to see if she would just give birth. Then I gave up, because it just never seemed to happen. This Sunday was the day. DH was cleaning the tank and we were expecting guests. And guess what! The female started 'delivering'! I literally saw one of the baby fishes (or should I say tadpoles?) come out of the female. It was quite a sight. I dont know how many it gave birth to, because it was swimming around and giving birth to one by one slowly.
So to make the long story short, now we have 6, SIX baby fishes! How amazing!! Its a diffierent problem that we have to find accomodation for these, but for now they are hiding in the plants away from the adult fishes. You know why? Because the adults eat the new borns!!
Now here is the perspective. Human beings are probably one of the few species that take good care of the offsprings. We make such a big deal out of babies and their growth, development etc, parents give all their life for their children, and look what nature does!! Fishes just eat the offsprings! And the offsprings fend themselves against the adults, like hours after they are born!
Coincidentally we were watching Animal Planet or something where in we saw a baby deer, only just born, having to defend and escape from a fox, only days after being born, traverse the hilly terrain for the first time for its life!
Life of animals is not so precious but life of human beings is. I guess thats what distinguishes man from other animals.
Also right about the same time, same weekend, watched this movie Paiyya. Its an okay movie, I dont like Karthi as much as I like Surya, but really watching this guy go off on a drive to Bombay from Chennai just like that, made me miss that kind of freedom. Made me miss the vettiness. Can I just take off, just like that, after what I like, and not care about the consequences? Without not being missed at work? Nope. Ugh, the snitches of growing up.
One side of me, wants to get ahead, reach the stars. The other side, the more religious side, wishes for a simple, humble life. Just have the minimal stuff needed for living, and lead a simple but content life. No rat race. No competition. Just a simple life spent in helping the needy. Does achievement lie only in making loads of money? I dont think so. Its more in making yourself useful to the world. Does happiness lie only in making loads of money? Nope. Its more from within yourself. Happiness can never be bought. Period. I usually get carried away by the rut and often stop and look back and retrace my steps.
New movie on iPhone - Angaadi Theru. I love the song - Aval appadi ondrum azhagillai. Very cute. Those songs also emphasizes my need for simple living. I have always found simplicity attractive. Its because I think people are more sensible and humble when they are simple, and when their needs are fewer. How simple will life be if all we had to worry about was the next meal. Just like animals? I know, I am going backwards lol!
Enough philosophy on a week day. Probably the quickest post I have written in a while.
Adios! |

Aiyo for some reason I find that song very irritating. Something about that song is way off. I don't know what!
