Growth
Monday, July 11, 2011
Seeing anything grow right in front of your eyes is most amazing. Especially if you are responsible for it in any way.

I am not much of a gardening person, hence an almost fully cemented backyard worked well with me when we bought the house, less maintenance. My mom on the other hand loves gardening. She has many potted plants in the terrace of our flat. Naturally Mom is all enthu about revamping the whole backyard. DH is also interested in backyard work. He lived in a proper house back in India with plants, trees, animals and fishes, unlike me who has lived in quarters and flats all through my life.

It is indeed a joy to watch plants grow, a little everyday.

The tomato plants which were barely a couple of inches tall have had rampant growth in the past couple months. I made my very first harvest of tomatoes and peppers recently.

We also have to contend with squirrels which love nipping the vegetable or flower in the bud itself. The eggplant never gets a chance, it flowers and immediately gets eaten. But its nice to see squirrels running around in the backyard, they mostly use our yard which is pretty barren as a shortcut to get to our neighbors yard which has luscious fruits including plums.

When we take my Mom to Lowes she turns into a kid in the doll store, wanting to get every single thing in the store. :--) We of course indulge her.

Talking of growth, BSK has outgrown some of her newborn clothes! Just how! I have been seeing her every single day since she was born and suddenly everything seems small! Its a treat to watch her do new things everyday. To be honest its a treat to just watch her do anything.

I had my first fight with her already. Do note I said I had a fight and not we fought. When I was sulking, little Miss just went about doing her business like nothing was wrong which made me sulk even more. :--P I was sulking because apparently she was giving beaming smiles with chuckling, gummy laughter embedded to her Grandma, Grandpa and Dad more frequently than she gave to me! Granted whenever she is in a good mood I give her Tummy Time and make her cry. Granted I spend more of the time bonding with the pump instead of her, unlike the rest. But still how can she ignore me like this? When I am working hard to feed her? So I sulked.
When the smiles were sparse, each incident was something to be boasted about in the household. Now she smiles abundantly. She eyes sparkle literally, I have never seen eyes that smile like this. Her nose crinkles, she starts which a slow one sided smile, and reacts to everything we say with a um or an aa or an oo, adding to the conversation as if she understands all the incoherent baby sounds we make, moves onto a full fledged smile which proceeds to being an open mouthed chuckle, sound included. Such a darling! When pregnant I used to worry about whether I will like how she looked. I have realized now. Kaakkaikkum than kunju pon kunju. I can see no flaws in her. I guess the mother in me has arrived. Finally. :--P

All four of us are not enough to attend to the little Miss. We take turns attending to her and doing household chores, so all of us get to have our rest and workout and time with the baby.

Every morning as I hurry through the usual I look her and make small talk with her and leave only after I see her smile. It keeps me going the rest of the day. I look at her pictures whenever I miss her at work. When I am driving back home I am hurrying through the traffic, impatient to get home, to see the tiny little being, who not long ago was a part of me, growing to be a separate entity.

Nice Harvest! The tomatoes at my place still hasn't started ripening. The bell peppers are just flowering. As for the eggplant, they are unpredictable. Last year, I had a huge harvest, this year, the flowers just keep falling :-(

Whoa! For a second I really freaked out when I saw that pic. I thought I was seeing my own backyard! Its the same coloured fence, same style and structure. I wondered if we're neigbours :P Then I realised that is unlikely. Lol.

PS* Do you by any chance live in Fremont too?
