My experience

I have to write about my World Cup experience too no?

Friday was a long day. It started off with a doctor's appointment, the baby seems to be making its way head down thank god. Hopefully she stays put so, she has been giving me some heart ache and tummy ache being transverse for a few weeks. The whole day was a spent in meetings including a team lunch. I have a good feeling about this team. Fingers crossed. Got out late from work and had to rush to dinner at Dosa Hut before the Prepared Childbirth class. The look on DH's face was priceless, let me stop at that. Mom is on a shopping spree in India, getting ready for the trip. So talked to her about what to buy etc etc. I want to tell her to not buy anything, but dont want to hurt her, wouldnt she want to buy cute stuff for her grandchild.

Finally slept at 10:30 or so. 1:30 woke up as DH got calls from people coming to watch the match. It was S's birthday on Apr 1st, what a day to be born :--D and we decided to cut a cake. I forced myself to go down. After the toss mix up, which was silly, making it look like the match was rigged, watched the first 15 overs. India's bowled and fielded amazingly. The run rate was so low, we brought down our chasing prediction to 150 runs or so. Slowly people were drifting off to sleep. I thought it would be an easy win, and decided to sleep for sometime.

Woke up at 7:15 and checked the scores before heading down. What the Heck!!! 270 odd runs and Sachin out! I came down kicked DH off the Lazy Boy and sat in it. Superstitions were running high. Things started picking up as Gambhir and Kohli played strong. It stayed a close, nerve wrecking match through out. I dont care too much for Cricket really. I just like the fever and enthu of the fans. Everyone was forced to stay where they were whatever they were doing. I wanted to make some breakfast but couldnt. S was resigned to stay in the kitchen so he ended up making some awesome asparagus. I was prohibited from getting out of the Lazy Boy. How can you keep a pregnant woman in one place for 3-4 hours? But I stayed put. I didnt want to be blamed for turning India's fate because I didnt stay still. :--D

The batsmen maintained the run rate keeping it close which was the best of what little cricket I have seen. I did follow the 96 World Cup under insistence of a friend, and thought I brought bad luck to the team. This time for a change, things were looking good as long as I was watching. DH moved from his place to get me breakfast and Gambhir got out. But thankfully things continued to look up even then. The make or break 47th over was awesome with 2 fours bringing us closer to victory. The last six sealed the deal. Hi-fives followed suit. My eyes moistened. Not because I cared so much for the victory, but because it surely was an emotional moment. All the hard work and dedication of the team payed off.

I liked Sangakkara's little speech. So down to earth, and so apt. Sehwag ran first to get his medal before the names were announced. Funny. Tendulkar was carried by the team. How awesome. Suddenly Dhoni was a hero, until then he was being taunted for poor captaincy. Suddenly all girls love Dhoni. We decided to eat out and celebrate. We had some workers coming home to do Garage Cabinets, so had to wait for awhile before heading out. Hot paranthas and other street food while watching Aaj Thak show the match highlights and celebrations was our own small way of celebrating. In a small way I feel bad that it is over.

With most of Saturday spent in delirium of happiness and sleeplessness, Sunday was more productive than normal. Decided to get some stuff from Motherhood for the hospital bag and post baby. And spent some time waddling on the floor trying to help DH set up the bed in the guest room for impending parents' visit. Slpt peacefully for a change, but still ended up feeling sleepy at work in the morning. Sigh! I guess I have to get used to this.

The "don't get up while someone is batting" is really funny. I always imagine someone dying to pee and squirming in their seats, and land up laughing even more :)
