Monthly Goals - September
Tuesday, August 30, 2011
I wanted to start this in August but I dont like to start things late or jump in the middle. Thanks to N, she posted this before September began so I am getting on the bandwagon. :--)

Organization - I am struggling a bit to get work done without having to log in from home, something that I am getting used to. Things are a little slow at work, so I am able to manage, but once things are kicking in full fledged I want to be prepared. Since I am spending less time at work, with occasional pumping breaks I have to really optimize my time at work, in order to be able to get all the things that I want to get done.

Toastmasters - I gave it a break since I got pregnant, after I gave a really breathless speech. ;--) I want to resume that and get my next in line Awards. It will be very challenging to fit this into work schedule but again, organization and proper planning will have to help me with this.

Volunteering - I have started volunteering for a couple of things but I am not finding the enthu or time, not sure which, to do it. I know if I am interested enough I will FIND time, so I guess motivation is missing. I want to actively get involved in these tasks. These are activities I have at work or something I can do online, so it doesnt take away precious Mommy time.

Eating habits - Something I am struggling with, with pumping causing hunger pangs quite so often. Well, but really, I am taking advantage of the situation and eating as I please, which I have to stop. I have miles to go or rather pounds to lose. Some things I have figured out that if I do I am sure I will shed some pounds -
* Limit white carbs - switched to bulgar and wheat for a few weeks now. Thinking of Quinoa as well. It is tough to customize diet with house full of family when I am not the one cooking. But thankfully everyone is very accomodating. The goal is to limit white carbs, including dosa, idli, rice to 2 meals a week.
* Limit unnecessary sugar - Been having lots of sweets under some pretext or the other, BSK's month birthdays, Mom's birthday, festivals, travelling, guests etc. I dont want to totally forgo sugar this month, since In Laws have just landed and there is lots of goodies from India :--P but will limit what I eat for a day.

Workout - Is going great. One reason why I did not PUT ON weight inspite of eating uncontrollably. So continue to work out 5 days a week. I have an elaborate plan to strengthen the core and other muscles to start running again.

Learning - I have a reminder in my Outlook titled Learnings? at the end of the work day. I used to document or atleast go over one thing that I learnt new that day. After coming back from leave I stopped doing that. So resume that.

Help out in house hold chores :--P - Ok, so I took a break from all house hold chores when I was pregnant. Literally almost everything. I have slowly started taking responsibilities. Starting off with everything baby related. I also want to cook, lest I forget cooking :--P Atleast twice a week I should cook a meal/dish.

Cloth diapering! - Bah, I have been putting this off forever now and I really want to get things set up for this, this month. My guilt is eating me off everytime I change a diaper. Its a lot of work but it will be totally worth the effort. We tried to install the diaper sprayer but it is leaking heavily. Once we have that installed I have a few cloth diapers at home from the Baby Shower and have chosen more to buy online and have researched on washing etc, I can really get on with it! Please wish me luck in this regard.

Reading - I am reading a the rate of 1 book every 6 months :--P mostly at the gym when on the elliptical. At nights I am mostly browsing baby stuff. But this reading is not about my reading but about reading to BSK. We read to her occasionally, once in a while in the evenings. I would like to bring in the reading routine somehow inbetween her bath and feeding at night, but that seems impossible. Yesterday she had her bath and slept off before we could feed her, and she generally sleeps off in the middle of her feeding. May be read to her before the bath everyday. It will be challenging because that is some of our alone time together.

Sleep - I get 6-7 hours of sleep. I know I am lucky to get that with a 3 month old, BSK is a darling, I hear horror stories with my nephew back in India who seems to forever wake up in the night, he is almost a year old, but that doesnt seem to be enough :--( I think its because of working out. I get to work around 8:30 which is late for my standards. I leave work very early, fyi. I would like to come to work by 8, spend time working instead of sitting in darn traffic. This will be the toughest part of this challenge for me I think.

So lets see how September goes!

Wow, this is way more inspiring than anything else!

And good luck on the cloth diaper. I can imagine how much of a pain that will be.

I love the 'learnings' bit. I should do that too.

I like your thought of jotting one new thing you learned - I should do that too.

All the best with the remaining....

Cloth diapering is easy really. I have had my DD in cloth since she was 3 months old and she is now 22 months old. Pocket diapers is the way to go really. Either FB or BGs or from good etsy stores. To save $$ you can stuff Indian/Chinese prefolds in fleece socks(cottonbabies.com) and use at home. This is bulkier.
