We visited F-town to friends place this weekend. It was so nice to say the least. I enjoyed each and every moment of it and wished I never moved to Bay Area. Instead we were trying to convince A and S to move here.
I am probably repeating like a broken record, but everything within 5 mins, empty roads, no lines, no parking hassles, 5 mins to work, 5 mins to day care, cheaper home prices, definitely better quality of living. Of course best part is the numerous friends! BSK would have had so many friends! Cos all my friends had babies at the same time within a years time.
Frankly here, after winding down with AID, which had mostly bachelors, and youngsters, we dont have too many family friends with babies. Plus the distance is always there. Our neighbours are all sort of older have older kids, plus well I guess we never initiated some relationships. Plus no time too I guess. No time to make new friends. I do so miss F-town. :--(
We went in the afternoon, had some yummy lunch made by A, she is an amazing cook. Then chatted for sometime, went to the park let the kids run around. Another friend and his son same age as BSK and E joined us. Three sets of parents and 3 kids, played Ringa ringa roses, ran around, took pictures. Went to Dos Coyotes for dinner. Of course each parent was trying to get their child to eat. Each one saying 'see the other kid is eating, you also eat' ;--)
Then we came back home, got the kids to dance a bit gangnam style, tired them out and put them to sleep. And kept chatting late into the night. Work, company, baby, career, travel, trips, friends. Oh so much to talk about. Reluctantly we went to sleep.
Today morning woke up leisurely, A made semiya upma for us, and chappathi for the kids. I mean, this A has so much enthu to cook I wonder how. DH says it is the interest. I am so lazy when it comes to cooking. I mean I wouldnt make breakfast for sure, when you have so many readymade options ;--)
Then we got ready and went to the new mall that has openned after we left the town. Looked very posh, and neat and new and clean. Gosh. How untidy bay area looks in comparison. We let the girls run around. Both of them enjoyed each other's company. BSK would copy what E did. And didnt want to be separated even the time when we were in our own cars to go to the same destination. 'A aunty A aunty' she kept chanting while we were driving for lunch. Had lunch at a thai place, chatted some more. And finally ended with filter coffee from nearby indian restaurant where we have had our friday take outs many many many times.
Finally we left. As we drove back, I wished again that we have friends like A and S here closer to us. Even DH was ready to move back to F-town. But he has no options. Now I think, this is a good place to be I cannot go back, but really I miss the friends. I dont think the same kind of bond can be made at this point in our lives. Everyone has their own circle and it is difficult to fit in. Plus no time.
But time has a solution for all issues, I am sure things will work out, until then, we just have to wait it out, hope for good things to happen, and do our bit.
On our way back went to Costco and saw the line to enter the parking lot. There was a nip in the air and I put a jacket over BSK's sleeveless dress which was perfect for F-town weather but not for Bay Area. The crowd, theAsians, the long lines, we were back from a small trip back to the past.

Welcome back to the Bay area! Where friends are, there your heart is - alas!
We should try to meet soon. Maybe we can meet in Liz Park one week-end and let our babies play while we meet each other....
