| I got a new mini computer with Ubuntu today. Got key board and mouse from office, and got a monitor from a friend. Voila I had a desktop on my counter. After feeling super bad this week about not spending time for my Africa trip, I spent sometime playing with the OS and some of the apps in there. I enjoyed the computing or programming apps. Gave me a high and actually made me miss programming. I didn't know Mr Khan Salmaan Khan had an online suite of tools of education. I played around with them some. I have to create some lesson plans over the weekend. I booked my tickets! DH and JSK are not coming because it is not worth hurrying the trip, I am concerned about JSK's safety. DH wants to go sometime next year. Ok fine. What I noticed is, these white people are very disciplined and dedicated. And honest and .. I really like it. I am not sure if I am. After all I am Indian at heart. When they sign up for something they are full hearted in it. They never take on too much that they cannot handle... Like me. Lesson to learn. I am enjoying working with the gang. We have some technical experts in our team and I am ashamed to say I don't understand some things they say. I don't know if I am a hardware person or a software person. I cannot pull apart a motherboard neither can I load an OS on a system. But man I am supposed to be technical! Something?! I can program meh, a little bit, what I know well is computer architecture, which really cannot be seen with bare eyes. So.. But #iamanengineer, a proud one at that.

The class went super well, thank you for the luck and wishes. I just get nervous, it is involuntary and I have to live through it. I loved the experience. More questions is good, that means people actually get it and the session is relevant. How do you go when you go to a class? You go to learn. You ask questions, you think. If material is above your head you zone out. Another chance to be on the other side. I got good feedback. I have one more training next week. I am also enjoying the firefighting just as I am preparing to leave the team. But I am super excited about the new job. I may be doing boring, low profile work in the beginning but I am confident I can ramp fast and get some serious responsibilities, but that can wait. I need some downtime.

This week I saw two accidents. One was on Wednesday, as I was driving back from the airport at peak 530-6 time. Motorbike under the car. These motorbikes really worry me. I am in the carpool lane and these guy slide between the lanes. I always move into shoulder a bit to give way for them, but sometimes I am distracted and I don't notice them and I get caught off guard. I don't like them. Something needs to be done about them to avoid accidents. So much chance of collision. I am usually on Auto Pilot, I have full trust in Mia to follow the car in front and can totally zone out into my book. However motorcyclists confuse her. I think as the motorcyclist passes by, the radar tracks the bike to follow but as it passes the car in front of me, it confuses Mia, so she ends up speeding following the motorbike and then suddenly breaking as she identifies the car in the front. I don't like it. Second one was in inside roads as JSK and I were heading back home from Ballet on Thursday. The car was literally lying on its side. I am not able to comprehend what speed in the inside 35mph roads could have caused the car to topple to its side. I think the guy didn't see the stop light and jammed into the car that started crossing the intersection. I told JSK she should stop arguing with me or Appa when we are driving else this is what would happen.
Shudder.
