One of my favorite Ken Robinson's quote is 'a three year old is not exactly half of a six year old, he doesn't know exactly half of what a six year old does nor is he half as matured as a six year old'
Profound and true one may think, when applied to kids.
That's what he calls 'organic'
But what about adults? And their enlightenment? Just like kids reach different milestones at different times, adults reach different so called milestones be it emotional or professional. It happens at the right time when the right stimuli and ingredients are present. How profound! Some grow very early in their careers, others a little late. Some are super fast, others not so much.
Again 'organic'
I often think about some years that I 'wasted' doing stuff that didn't add to my long term plans. Heck I didn't know what my long term plans were. I wondered if they are gone forever without adding any value to my professional life. Some say 2 years in a 40-50 year career is very small.
But I think those years added something to my life. They taught me some hard lessons. Those years never go away. And somehow they add to the complete picture. I may not realize now, but someday it will make sense.
And since life is not linear, those two years won't keep me behind all those that didn't waste those years.
Profound eh?

well if u reported to him for only a couple of months, he should have zilch to say for your move. I'd say bump it up - take it one level up or go to the person who managed your prior to him and get a mid-year assessment done, before u move to the new position. It's all fresh now, and it will come in handy (written document) when time comes for focal next year. I've done that once and it saved my A$$ :)
