Week 5!

First day of school for dotter. And I was nervous. It may seem so silly, why should I be nervous? I will tell you. We usually are out of the house by 8-8:10AM, Altschool summer sessions started at 9AM which meant I can drop her earliest by 8:45AM. Somehow I survived the month attending meetings on the go, sometimes forgetting to call in to my 8am mtgs ;--S

School starts at 8:25AM now. After a month of eating breakfast at a leisurely pace, Madame has to gobble and get out by 8AM. There is also her hair. On a normal day you will see me fighting with her to brush her hair pulling my hair out at the same time. She has too many tangles every morning. I need atleast 10mins for the hair.
And then there is parking near the school, how bad will it be? How close can we find parking?

JSK, should I call her KSK, Kindergartener SK ;--P , she woke up on her own at 6:45AM! Usually she likes to cuddle in our bed for 5-10mins before getting up. We were out by 8AM.

I hope we can get out by 8AM everyday. Just the thought of tardy slip makes me nervous.

Another reason I am nervous is because dotter might be the only brown skinned girl in her class. I don't want her to feel any kinda complex. Hope I can coast through without having to deal with it for a few more years. One at a time!

The teacher was very sweet, the classroom well stocked not like public schools in India for sure. We had a coffee social at 8:30 I was there for a brief time. They really do make an effort to make new families feel welcome and connected. Every family wants their child to fit in, make friends. There is another coffee social tomorrow, and an international dinner on Saturday which we will miss because of our only camping trip of the summer planned months in advance ;--( oh well.

I went again at 12 noon when kinder was dismissed. My after care lady was there too and I introduced her to the class teacher. There is no real checking which was kinda scary, getting used to how things roll here. Almost half the class gets picked up by parents. The remaining go to one of the four after school programs. Dotter went with her in her car while I came back home.

We have a major dilemma on afterschool care. I put her in the current one because it was the only one available, everything else was full, except a full Chinese school. Now there is space in the Kids Club at school. It is a bit expensive for just letting kids play around. But dotter won't have to be driven by someone else. I can pick her up from the school itself. The current afterschool is a bit further like 1.5mi, I am not exactly a fan of the place but it is affordable and they have some art, soccer classes on site and take kids to another place for music if there are more kids. This way she can get some activities done before 6pm on weekdays, when she is still energetic instead of us having to take her for 7pm classes. But the thought of someone driving her everyday even through small inside roads is a bit concerning. And she will be the only kid from her class there where as I know there are atleast 2 kids in the kids club at school. Dilemma dilemma!

Lot of volunteering opportunities at school. I hope to do some definitely. In fact I am looking forward to it. The school is one of the smaller schools, only two kinder classes this year and they are not full which is how we got in in the first place. I personally like the smaller student teacher ratio, a little bit more attention to each child may be?

It remains to be seen if JSK will continue to wake up on her own early in the morning. I will see tomorrow!

Good night!
