| Compliments |

I am used to people at Church telling me I have a good voice. But, yesterday, ahem, a nice girl, mind it, she was probably in her twenties, came to us after the Mass. She wasnt even sitting near us to err.. hear my lovely voice, so I was wondering what she wanted. She was all smiles, and she said, " You are the most beautiful person I have ever come across". Really. I am not joking. Ask DH for confirmation. She really took me by surprise. I was literally dumbstruck with a stupid smile on my face. Was she like blind or something? She went on to say," Your dress is so nice". Ah! there you go, mystery solved. I was wearing a salwar, I recently got from India. "Where do you get them from?" I blushed a little as I said I got them from India. And she gave me the sweetest smile, while I stood there not knowing how to react.
It is only too obvious that she liked the salwar, I mean, I dont think even boys would consider me a beautiful. Cute probably, but not beautiful, thats a whole different language.
Anyway, she made my day obviously. From my side, even if I did see a beautiful person, or someone wearing exotic clothes, I would probably not go to them and give them the compliments they deserve. It may be because I am shy by nature. Is it good or bad? She made my day obviously. And I can probably make so many people's day by giving them good compliments if they deserve it. But I never do that, not to strangers. Tch! me. |

Hello there, pretty girl :-D! I am sure it was not just your dress (else, you would have heard, "Your dress is so beautiful" first!).
I must say though that salwar kameezes seem to have taken on much more beauty for me after I came here!
In Davis, there were so few desis and even fewer desi girls who wore salwar kameez, that on the rare occassions that I wore salwar kameez to school (on weekends), some non-desi or the other would make a nice comment. So if I felt down, wearing a salwar kameez was the easiest way to get a compliment ;-).

Hey Arch, No way, I think she just liked my dress. :--)
Yes salwars look prettier when worn in the US, you stand out.
Back in school it used to be so much fun dressing up for some indian occasion like Diwali. :--) But here, I wear salwars more often as it isnt too cold here. :--))
Sparkie, Certainly. :--)
