Milestones!
Thursday, January 19, 2012

BSK turned 8 months today. Time flies! It is amazing how much she has learnt in the past one month. Just today she learnt to sit on her own, from tummy down position. She has been trying for somedays now. She would do the inverted V, bring one leg inside in sitting position but she never could master balancing herself letting her hands support go. And she did it today.  It came so natural to her, like she had always done it. It was so beautiful, it was poetry. Lately now that madame is a pro at sitting, she got frustrated if we lay her down on her back. She would put up a tight face like she really wants to get up but she cannot. If we sit her up she was content. She can go from sitting to tummy down position for a few weeks now, she coordinates it well. Sometimes she makes an accident landing, but succeeds nevertheless. Today's development marks a huge milestone for her. she need not depend on us to lift her from lying down position. She can lift herself up to sitting position!
And she has been able to pull up on anything near her from sitting position to standing position! This also happened sometime during the Christmas holidays. She would scramble to catch anything above her and slowly lift herself up. No longer can I confidently leave her in the crib to make her bath. For the crib is not lowered yet and so she pulls on the sides to lift herself up to standing position! If I stand nearby she would reach out to pull my clothes, wanting me to lift her. Thats not all, yesterday madame also took a few shaky steps to the side, holding on the railing, when she realized just moving her body toward wouldnt work, legs have to move too! Is that cruising now? We have been letting her stand by the couch for support to give her practice. She bangs on the couch with both her hands, and enjoys it immensely.
She is  reaching her milestones, as per the book. She has learnt to sit up on her own on the day she turned 8 months. She also rolled over the day she turned 4 months. Quite a sincere girl I should say, neither fast, nor slow. :--P

With that covered, yet another major milestone, little BSK has been army crawling for a couple of weeks now! Neither DH nor I were present when she did it first, MIL noticed it and emailed us. That evening we watched her crawl unsteadily. She would lift her butt so high up,I was almost scared she would topple over, her bulky cloth diaper did not help. But now she has become a pro. She crawls like a snake, one foot after another. She is after our slippers. She will follow it wheerever we go, even round and round the same place.

She has mastered her pincer grasp too. We gave her one cranberry to play with and she had a ball. She would very carefully reach out for the little fruit, more tension let it roll off, so just the right tension was needed to pick it, and of course we had to take it away from her, lest it make it into her mouth.  She will give that paavam look 'Kaikkettinadhu vaaikku ettalaye'. She has this totally adorable way of investigating stuff on the floor which is now her playground with her new found mobility. She would investigate carpets, slippers, wires, ants, peanut peels which escaped the routine mopping. She evaluates it for a few seconds, with her tiny little forefinger, which gives us just enough time to pull it out of her way before it makes into her mouth.

I also had the first mishap because of her. Since she didnt go to sleep after her first feeding of the morning like she usually does to give us time to get ready to work, I took her down with me to get my morning tea. Since she is a big girl what with crawling and all I decided to teach her how to make tea. I was verbalizing, "get the cup from this shelf, fill it with water from here, get the tea, tear it open.." etc etc. She obviously wanted to touch the cup, get practical experience, :--P, which I was trying to avoid, and voila, one slight of her hand and the cup found its place on the kitchen floor with water splashed everywhere. Thank god I didnt heat the cup just yet. Now how do I mop the floor with her on my hip? So I tried to leave her in the playard. 'Bwwaaaaah! Its too early in the morning to leave me alone Mommmy?!' She wailed.  So I picked her up and sat her right in the kitchen, and got to cleaning up the mess. By the time she slowly inched her way to the mess, exploring everything in the way including the kitchen rug, I was almost done thank god.

On the social front, BSK continues to not only love playing peekaboo, she also contributes. When DH says "Kutty chellam enga kutty chellam?" and intentionally looks everywhere except her, whatever she is doing, she immediately gives a 'eh eh' smilingly, as if saying, " Hey I am here, I am here!" while trying to get his attention. Adorable little kitten!

BSK and I were dressed in a uniform for her 8month celebration. Jeggings and tunic! MIL made an avasara sweet - paniyaram.

Baby proofing, not yet done, needs to be done soon! My little princess is growing up.
