Weekend matters

I am in love with Palo Alto. Seriously. The first time I was there was way back in 2003, with a couple of friends from school. The dazzling Downtown of Palo Alto, the spic and span huge Stanford campus with big  name departments which are sure to make any grad student gape in awe, the posh and hi-fi Stanford Shopping Center were enough to make me go open mouthed after already having been given a heavy dose of sunny, lovely California which is the must be place for techies.  Yes, California was the dream of any grad student getting an engineering degree, err, atleast in my era.

But guess what I hadnt visited the Shopping Center since then. Until this weekend. I should say it brought
back some memories. Its funny how such memories work. I somehow transformed into the same grad
student in awe of the place even that night. Lot of window shopping and some real shopping in Crate and Barrel later we finished off the night with dinner at California Pizza Kitchen for In Laws' Wedding Anniversary. (Yes Pizza! You read that right :--P) BSK was adorable and not so fussy. I feel sorry for her whenever we go out and put her in the car seat and stroller. I hate to see her constrained with belts and bundled up, looking left and right unable to be move. I guess that is what they call mommy guilt? We noticed a lot of kids in CPK, one kid had loaned the mop from the staff and was mopping the floor, with the Dad following him around :--D So cute.I cannot wait for BSK to grow up! Well, now also she is at a cute age, laughing and squealing and blabbering and generally aware of her surroundings.

Anyhoo I hope we visit this place more often to 'hang out' as much as that we can do. One more reason I liked this visit is I did an impulse purchase with backing from MIL. Since we had a 25min wait time for our table we got into the nearest store and were just generally looking at the atrociously expensive garments. One line of jackets near the door were at some ridiculous sale. I found something in panju mittai pink. And in my size. Since I have lately been all about dressing in bold colors instead of neutrals (see my use of words? I am learning I say!) MIL said it would be a change to see me in something other than black and gray. DH said one cannot beat the sale price. And so I bought it! So there, if you see someone in a panju mittai pink coat in the Bay Area you know its your truly. :--P Feel free to come and say Hi.

I was all gung ho about shopping, when Sunday the Father hit me in my face with a message that would make any human with some humanity cringe with shame at spending dollars on themselves to have a surplus of anything deemed  unnecessary.  Clothes/shoes/handbags/jewellry/coats are your bare necessities. One shouldnt base their self worth and confidence on them. There are so many who dont have clothes to wear everyday, who walk bare feet for miles with blisters, who dont have even a single blanket/coat to protect them from harsh winter, :--(, how can I justify having surplus of these just because I can afford them? Slap in my face indeed. I can splurge on stuff once in a while, but I guess I can never be one with closet full of shoes or coats or clothes or own drawers full of jewelry or handbags.

Yesterday we visited the temple and a friend's family. They also have a baby, just a tad younger than BSK. I wanted to take BSK out to meet more people. Last weekend she had tears in her eyes when a lady we visited picked her up. This time since friend N knows about babies, she slowly earned her confidence and then picked her up, so BSK did not cry! So these two friends live in the same locality in HUGE houses. And we could starkly see the difference in how well kept or not the respective homes were. One house was spic and span like a hotel, gave me huge complex, the lady was a housekeeper, the other one, was well, like ours :--P, a normal home, with a baby, and she is a working mom.

I like to keep a neat house with everything in place with nothing except accents seen outside, but that is just impossible to maintain I think with the hectic hurried life that we live. Well I guess sometimes its priorities too. I would rather sleep, or go to the gym or just be outside than sit in the house and clean up the wardrobe. (or scrub the floors?) Unless I absolutely have to, or when I get these sudden urges to clean, inspired by seeing some other well kept homes. ;--) Well Christmas and in general with Holidays around the corner, its time to get some cleaning done.

I am sure the pink jacket will look good on you and you will love it! Utbt made me get a bright red jacket since she got tired of my white, tan and blacks, and I am loving my red jacket!
