Golden Years
Thursday, May 08, 2014
I think these are the most cherish able years of childhood. Soon to be 3 year old BSK is  such a treat to watch and hear.

"Who wants pizza raise your hands"
"I am not your friend amma"
"I want something to eat"
"I love your hair amma, I love you amma" (in that order)
"Your dress is so pretty amma, I like your dress"
"I am not wearing a dress appa, I am wearing a tshirt, see amma is wearing a dress" (tutoring appa on girls clothes)
"Where is my spot"
"Amma come and sit here, or you will lose your spot"

And more whinings
" I dont want to do kaanam (head bath) appa"
" I want one more big chocolate"
" I dont like beans, I like beans, I wan only yogurt"

If I tell her to talk in Tamil she goes, "English la pesarena"

She knows her birthday is coming up. She knows she is two year old and that on May 19th she will be 3 years old. I asked her who she wanted to invite for her birthday from her class and she wanted most of her class to come. Not sure how many would really come. Also 'my favorite animal" (giraffe), lion, tiger, elephant, teddy, reddy (her toy), pinky (her toy), baby (her toy) and amma and appa.

She will be a great negotiator one day.
I have told her she will get a chocolate if she has both rubberbands on her hair in the evening when I pick her up. Yesterday she said " Amma I have one rubberband still in my hair give me one small chocolate!"

Morning routine is much better, she drinks her milk and breakfast with DH before going to school, which is a big deal considering the situation only 2-3 month ago. Dinner is also much better, sitting on the table and eating. She still has lot of distractions but is much better.

She has a lot of variety in food nowadays. Breakfast could be - oatmeal, granola, eggs, bread/nutella, french toast (weekends), cereal. Lunch could be - rice/dhal/veggie, pasta/veggie, mac and cheese/veggie, parathas/yogurt, ghee rice/black beans, yogurt rice/veggie. (Planning to start giving chicken too, made simple grilled chicken yesterday came our awesome. "I want one more chicken amma". So lunch today is ghee rice, spinach curry and chicken) Dinner is similar to lunch, with some chappathis/quinoa/oats idli/dosa thrown in. Snacks she has a banana every evening at 4PM, a cup of fruits at 10:30am. Evening, some cheese, nuts, or fruits. All junk is saved for weekends :--P She does get gummies everyday like 3 of them. Somehow it makes her super happy.
Touchwood, touchwood, touchwood, she rarely falls sick. I attribute it to lot of veggies and fruits. She is like me in that regard. No fever etc, but has other problems. Like dry skin issues.

She is getting much better with people. We have been making an effort to spend time with kids her age every weekend and it seems to help a little bit. Still very shy but making progress.  This birthday will be interesting.

I have birthday jitters now.

But this little girl is just too cute for words and I will cherish this time for years to come. This is the stage I want to freeze.
