Ramblings Only

Just ramblings, only a vent for emotions, feelings and all the good stuff

My first game drive
Friday, October 23, 2015
Game drive is a fancy word for going in a Land Cruiser in a national Park and looking for animals. In older days folks used to go on game drives to shoot, hunt and kill animals. Now also we shoot, only pictures.

And gosh we saw so many! We are in Lake Nakuru National Park. Most surreal beautiful. I don't have words for the beauty around this place. Seriously. All my pictures are in my camera so you have to take my word for it until after I get back home.

Animals we saw -
- zebras - these were exciting until a little while into the game we were like meh only zebras
- impala - so beautiful, the male one with horns and it's herd of females and kids without horns following it
- Wild Buffaloes - ya we have a lot of those in India
- rhinos! - we saw one black and a herd of 6 white rhinos. Fantastic
- gazelle - beautiful
- water buck - also pretty
- baboons - a lot of them showing their junk around
- LION! - clearly the highlight of today. It was sitting majestically in the grassland. Our guide heard it on the radio and rushed to the spot. There  it was. I froze in a moment of excitement and fear. So fricking majestic. A herd of zebras were walking by and toward the lion! We stayed and watched tensely as the zebras came close and we could feel the fear in the zebras as they realized the presence of the lion. But the lion was LAZY! Didn't budge! Darn it! The zebras were saved but we were sure we would see a live killing and were kinda bummed. The female lion does all the hunting, male just sits around, majestic. But oh man! It looked right at us several times. I wanted to spend eternity in the park. Just drive around and watch animals.
- giraffes - a herd of them, but the light was too bad to take decent pictures.
We saw several birds as well, pretty and bright and colorful.

We are staying in a fancy hotel inside a park. Great food. Indian. It is paid for by our VP, because some of the folks didn't want to do two safaris and she was flying back before the second one. Indian food!! Puri and dhal and pickle and raita, mid trip Indian food cravings have been abated to a certain extent.

Of course we have one professional photographer with us on our trip so I hope to get some crazy awesome pictures to share. I could stay here and watch wild life all day... Esp mr Lion!
