| Memorable Independance Day |
| Sunday, August 15, 2010 |
This weekend was my first experience of OAT, Open Air Theater. ;--) We had a Movie Night at P's place. We watched Lage Raho Munna Bhai. A fitting film to watch on the eve of Independance Day.
DH and I went in early to help set up the place. We, rather DH and other guys had to dig with a shovel to put a pole on the ground and drill nails of the poles to hang the projector screen on which the movie was shown, I supervised. :--P Pre cursor to what lies ahead in the next coming months. Chai seems to be a favorite among AIDers. DH and I are not Chai people, but lately have taken a liking to it. It was a super fresh tea with lemon grass from P's own garden.
There were so many people helping in the kitchen, chopping, making this and that, it was a great team effort. I even used a mini ural to grind spices. Quite interesting. I want to buy one and keep at home. There was a meeting going on too, lot of events lined up, lot of planning.
We had Mexican food for Dinner, Tacos, beans, basil fried rice, chips, salsa, dips, bread, all mostly home made.
It was well past 9 when we all gathered in P's huge back yard sleeping bags in tow. It was quite cold. And it was amazing lying down under the stars. The movie was okay, I had already watched it, so got some sleep in between too. Laughing out loud for silly jokes, stupid sub titles translations, which DH insisted on having, it was a lot of fun.
Once again I was amazed at the selflessness of the many volunteers, its really a totally different level.
It was about midnight when the movie ended. DH and I left home, but others continued to watch another movie looks like. I felt bad I couldnt stay to help clear the place, but I heard it was well past 3 when everything winded down. Quite a way to spend Independance Day!
Happy Independance Day! Take away is to really be selfless, and stand for your principles, like Bapu did. |
