Milestone... sort of

My itty bitty baby is 5 months today, the cake cutting ceremony will be held in the evening when everyone is home. The size of the cake however is diminishing as BSK gets bigger, dont want those extra calories now do we.

At 5 months,
- BSK smiles when I get back from work. Its a coy, shy smile, gorgeous gummy smile
- BSK laughs from her  belly, its the most adorable sound I have heard. She will laugh if I shake her a bit, if      I make a growling sound, if I bring my face close to hers in a quick second, when I tickle her tummy, feet, palms, when I show herself in the mirror, when I say brrrr, grrr, blurp, bling and other such nonsense sounding words, they must be jokes in baby language, she laughs out loud and squeals.
- Sometimes when she is no mood to exert her vocal chords she will smile without a sound, just openning the mouth wide.
- BSK can roll over and spend minutes together on her tummy, do push ups, reach for toys she wants.
- She puts anything and everything in her mouth. One day when I had my face close to her, she caught my cheek and wanted to put it in her mouth!
- She cries when I disapper even for a second to get her bath ready or to pick out her clothes. She cries when I hold her hands while she tries to put them in her mouth.
- She is very loud, even in her sleep. She yawns when sleeping, how the hell does one do that? She yawns with a sound, aaaaaghhhh.
- She can converse with her toys, the cable remote is her favorite companion right now.
- I think her first word is Hey, discounting the Ack and Aggghh, ghuuu, and the host of other vowel sounds she makes.
- She bites at everything. I put my finger in her mouth and her gums feel really strong.
- She reaches out and wants to touch everything. I think she raises her hands to ask to be carried or picked up. And I think she lifts her hand to goes to a person ready to lift her or carry her.
- She splashes the bathroom wet when she has a bath.
- She does not like to be touched on her face or head. Her way of showing her disapproval is shaking her hands and legs violently. It melts my heart to just think of it.
- The little lady can sit with her hands in the front. Sometimes she doesnt like to lie down, she want to sit or be upright so she can see the world and observe.
- When on her tummy, BSK brings focus on her knees, trying to scoot. Time to baby proof soon!
- She pulls at my hair, the little that has not yet fallen off.
- BSK has found her toes! My my, her favorite pose when not on tummy is to hold her toes with her hands. I notice BSK is quite a flexible little lady. She would do well in gymastics may be?
- (almost missed it!)BSK had her forst solid meal last weekend. She was too hungry and gobbled up the rice cereal on Saturday. But Sunday was not so great. Need to try to give her solids more often to see how she takes to it. She seemed just tooo ready on Saturday. She looked sooooooooooo cute chomping on her food, mum mum mum. Babies are the most beautiful beings God ever made.

The biggest milestone today is for SK, not BSK. SK is finally fitting into her pre pregnancy clothes! The biggest ones in the wardrobe but still pre preg clothes are pre preg clothes, not elastic maternity ones.

MIL kinda made fun of my dressing, quite heartless and thoughtless I would say.  Its like telling a pregnant woman she is too fat. You cannot comment on the dressing habits of a new mom with the ever changing body. Its not that I am unaware of all the extra weight I am carrying, I dont want it to be brought to notice this way. I dismissed it as her ignorance. In India you can wear a saree or a lose salwar and cover up whatever extra flab you have. Or rather you just dont wear body hugging clothes there. Doesnt work that way here.   I should add a disclaimer that she is not insensitive consciously, she just doesnt know, so I wouldnt blame her. She is the sweetest little thing. She caters to my special meal requests and has to do double work to satisfy my low fat diet and FIL's taste palette.

But, it did serve as a trigger to me. Have gone shopping crazy to get some clothes.  DH thinks he has woken up the beast in me. Online shopping rocks! I have been reading about 'fashion' and 'style' and how to look good with the body you are given. It seems to be a whole world in itself. If any of you follow any fashion blogs, websites do drop a comment.

I never gave too much importance to my appearance. I have this complex that nothing will look good on me, so why bother dressing up and make a fool of myself. I have changed in recent times. Just laziness and habit prevents me from dressing well.

Today wore a white jeans with a golden apple green top and an olive green cardigan. The older self would have thought myself crazy but the newer self thinks the success in pulling it off is in the confidence and coolness with which you carry yourself. I think I was okay. I did make a few heads turn, for folks on my floor havent seen me in regular clothes in a longgggg time.

So here's to shopping till you drop! And.. heres to dropping those extra inches and pounds to make shopping more fun.
