It was another memorable Christmas at home this year. And obviously I wont sleep right until I blog about it.
We had friends and family visiting. And the past couple of days flew by fast. I only remember cooking and cleaning ;--D
I was very much inspired by Altoid, and the website she recommended, that I wanted to try them all out as soon as possible. The pictures in the website were delicious.
I made coconut burfi. The amount of ghee and sugar I had to put! I had trouble getting the shapes for the burfis. But this was my first time, so I guess its okay.

I made carrot cake. The last time I made cake was last year, with readymade cake mix. This year, Altoid influenced me enough to try cake from scratch. Bought Maida from the Indian store, baking soda from the store. I was all set. It is so easy to make. It doesnt rise up much, which bothered me a bit, before I learnt carrot cakes dont usually rise.

We went Bowling on Christmas Eve. I was playing worse than usual, but towards the end I played one full strike, which turned the game upside down and I won!
I made beans paruppu usili. Which was turning to be a disaster, but smudged the mistakes a little.
Then I made cauliflower kurma, Moong dhal, Peas/mint pulao, coconut rice. Friend D made Chicken gravy. Friend M made Potato Podimas and Rasam. DH fried frozen samosas as appetizers to have with mint chutney.
We were all set for Christmas Lunch by noon. Guests trickled in. They all came with Christmas gifts! I was so surprised and overwhelmed. Table turned out to be a buffe table. ;--) I was glad to see the items disappear. What more do I want?

Then we all settled in for a game of Mafia. One person can make the whole crowd lively. We all ended pulling one guy's leg. A lot.
DH got me a gift for Xmas. He kept it under the tree for me to open it on Xmas Day. It was a Digital Photo Frame! I have been asking for one for a long time. I was so happy. Now I dont have to change pictures in our frames. I just have to upload the pictures in the frame and then put on a slideshow. Cool eh?
Christmas day it so happens that we never set foot outside the house. I was so tired by evening, with less sleep, with the Midnight Mass, and waking up early to cook.
But with the tiredness is a pleasant warm feeling, of having celebrated the occasion with friends and family. Friends left saying I have fed them only a little too much. I packed left overs for friends.
I know this may not be a big deal for many of you, but me, I am a novice in cooking and I will always be. This is the first time I cooked for about ten people. Every time I invite friends over, its an exam for me, and I want to do well. Seriously, I can even lose sleep over it. ;--) Since it is hard to believe for many, including my parents that I made all this, I took pictures of everything for proof. ;--) My parents have never tasted anything cooked by me, yet.
Thats it. I am done with cooking, until next Christmas! The cleaning part is the worst. DH has been helping me a lot, its just not getting done! Its so nice to stay at home and blog, while your colleagues and friends are at work. ;--) Its a great feeling no? Time to point and laugh.
Happy Holidays friends and Happy New year.
See you all in 2008! |
