Friends

This weekend was uber nice. Friends A and S visited. It was more of an impromptu visit. They called Friday and said they will come on Saturday, but DH somehow lured S saying we can watch cricket together and they ended starting at 9:30PM and reaching past 12midnight! We gave them a tour of our humble abode at midnight.
Morning dawned nice and fresh. We made Pongal and Chutney, I learnt some tricks of yummy cooking from A for she is one hell of a cook. Well I decided to make breakfast at home because these guys had plans to visit indian places for Lunch and Dinner. ;--) So after a filling Lunch at Komala Vilas followed by lazing around watching Tamil Padam and Vivek Comedy at home, we went to the Mall and then a gaming place to spend the evening. A whole bunch of shooting, throwing, flying, killing games later we finished our rendevous at Thirupati Bhimas, trying to stuff ourselves.

After dinner we had to head over to P's place for the AID workshop, which is now going full fledged with so many events lined up. I should say my creative juices are very limited. Either that or I just dont have the patience to unlock my creativity. Instead I sat around criticing work. :--P Yummy Pav Bhaji for dinner, I looked at the food rather longingly, for my stomach had not a cubic inch of room left for anything. DH started sleeping lying in the middle of a room full of 20 people working on various stuff, yes DH fell asleep before I did ;--D, and then we decided we should head home, sometime past midnight.

After the hectic (for the stomach) Saturday, Sunday was for chores. Farmers Market, Groceries, Passport photos, marathon cooking, work, some non-work work, workout and thus the weekend flew by.

Racing against time

I often used to get irriated by folks who are always in a hurry in the highway. Very reluctantly I should say I have become one of them. I measure the time it takes to get to work, and I am never happy on any day. I am learning to manuver in crazy traffic to find the best lane to take to the reach the destination may be a couple of minutes early. When I do, I have a look of smug satisfaction on my face. Since I started going for classes at the gym, once again the race starts in the evening to make it in time for the class, for Bay area being what it is, the class gets so full, I dont get to attend the class if I am late!

Routine

I like the weekday routine which has been neatly drawn out for most days. I like schedules and order.
Breakfast at home with DH on the table (which is bliss, for me), leave to work at the same time on most days, 6:15-7:45 gym/running with DH, 8:00-9:00 Cooking/eating/ packing lunch 9:00-11:00 - Work, non-work work, with TV in the background. Sleep.
I cannot help feeling proud of the fact that I have been packing/taking lunch every single day of the week since I joined the new team. So kudos to me! Its a big achievment for my standards. I have to see how things pan out when work gets hectic which I am pretty sure it will.

(Over) Confidence

It was sheer over confidence at having achieved the Competent Communicator Award that I signed for the Humorous Speech contest last week. I had not prepared at all and didnt have a topic ready until the morning of the Contest, although I spent the entire previous evening debating on what to talk about. If that is not over confidence then what is? I realized the night before that ironically Humorous Speeches are not a joke. They have to be very carefully planned and a lot of effort needs to go in on developing the content. Here is a sample Humorous Speech which I thought was very well done. How can one pull off such a speech?

So I picked the IST - Indian Stretchable Time as the topic. I prepared and practiced while I took the shower in the morning and on my way to work driving. I think it was well received with quite a few laughs in many places. It was just an experiment, where I pushed my vocal variety, body language, and used pauses and expressions to the fullest. I am glad to say I had no nervousness may be the first few seconds, but otherwise none, standing there in the podium of a rather fancy Auditorium.

Of course I didnt win, but the Chief Judge said he voted me for second position. Not bad for the time I prepared. Lesson - Humorous Speeches are definitely not easy, cannot be pulled by starting prep the previous night, atleast for someone like me who can never crack a joke off hand.

Prayers

Brother has an interview soon. Can the few readers please be darlings and keep him in your prayers? I know he is doing his best, the rest is up to the man above.

Thus the days are rolling by quickly.
