With Halloween this past weekend, holidays officially start! Cannot believe its November already. I love November and December and obviously hate January. Neighborhood homes were cutely decorated for Halloween, with Pumpkins and cobwebs and RIPs and what not. Since we didn't do anything specific for Halloween, and to be frank we don't quite know a lot of the neighbors, so I wasn't sure if kids would come around for candies. But they did! we were actually sorting out some stuff in the garage all Sunday evening and didn't really expect any 'surprise' guests, with the garage wide open. But I was in for a minute heating up Chai for a couple of folks and the door bell rang. I was quite taken aback, wondering who would be stupid enough to do that. I opened the door to see two little kiddos, one dressed in Scream costume, which quite scared me. I ran upstairs to get some chocolates left over from long ago, thankfully and gave them some. I asked them what Trick they have to play on me and one made a wise crack, "I am not sure you will like the trick we will play." "!!"
Kids poured in all cutely dressed, we caught them at the garage and asked questions on their costumes and gave them chocolates. It was funny to see the parents tagging along with the kids watching them respond to our questions. Sigh! The things parents have to do LOL! Some were even taking pictures as the kids ran around. Possibly to put the pictures up on their Facebook? For I saw quite a few Trick or Treat pictures today morning on FB.
How did we celebrate Halloween? I decided I wanted to watch horror movies and scare the heck out of myself. Sunday after was a absolutely lazy one and I loved it. After shopping for some long sought after formal flats to wear to work, visiting the Mall after ages, I settled down under covers for a chilly movie, Within. It was such a let down for a horror movie. To make up for it, we decided to record The Eye and watch it in the night, but I got too scared and we decided to retire for the night.

Ever since I moved into the new group I have been milking the downtime at work quite a bit. But the honeymoon period came to a full stop, once a colleague left on maternity leave. Now I am assigned work that two people should be doing. Pliss to note I said I am 'assigned', not I am 'doing'. I havent worked on weekends in a long time, but looks like pretty soon its going to get there.
One thing I have never been is rude to people. At work. But somehow here, I find people with not great minds but supreme attitudes, it ticks me off, and for a change instead of wallowing in self pity about not being able to handle it correctly,I am doing things right, I am openly confronting the stupidity and giving it back as appropriate. I should say I am rather proud of myself. SK is getting tough.
So I wrote this post on People Skills almost three years back, and I have come a long way. Thanks Ragho for the kind words, ;--), if you are still reading, it does prove that I was not born with missing people skills bones, but rather I just lost them for a bit. In fact now I find I am the one who is looking to make new friends, meet new people, know more about people, while on the other hand people around me are just buried in their own world. So the check points and goals do help.
Thanks to everyone that responded with valuable tips and advice. I love getting advice, a chance to learn and grow.
Its time to have a check point on my goals for this year. First half was a breeze. Second half is not going so well. I have one mammoth of a task to finish and holiday season will not help. |
